Vanaf 1 jaar. Elke fabrikant kiest een ander getal, en gemiddeld hebben ze allemaal een beetje gelijk.<\/p><p>Het probleem is dat leeftijd iets meet wat er niet toe doet. Een kind van 20 maanden met lange benen zit prima op een loopfiets. Een kind van 2,5 jaar met kortere benen komt er niet bij. Zelfde fiets, zelfde label, twee heel verschillende ervaringen.<\/p><p>En het gaat meestal dezelfde kant op: er wordt te vroeg gekocht. De fiets staat een half jaar te wachten, je kind raakt eraan gewend dat dat ding er nu eenmaal staat, en tegen de tijd dat het wel kan is de nieuwigheid eraf.<\/p><h2>De maat die wel klopt: binnenbeenlengte<\/h2><p>Meet je kind van kruis tot vloer, zonder schoenen. Dat getal is je maatstaf, niet de kalender.<\/p><p>Het zadel van de loopfiets moet daar een paar centimeter onder blijven. Dan zit je kind op het zadel met beide voetzolen plat op de grond en de kni\u00ebn licht gebogen. In die houding gaat afzetten vanzelf.<\/p><p>Staat het zadel te hoog, dan gebeurt er iets anders: je kind tippelt op zijn tenen, voelt zich onzeker en stapt eraf. Niet omdat het te jong is, maar omdat de fiets te groot is.<\/p><div class=\"blog-highlight\">Zet je kind op het zadel. Staan beide voetzolen plat op de grond, met licht gebogen kni\u00ebn? Dan is de fiets klaar. Zo niet: nog even wachten, of een lager model zoeken.<\/div><h2>Loopfiets vanaf welke leeftijd: wat je in de praktijk ziet<\/h2><ul><li><strong>Rond 18 maanden<\/strong>: alleen de allerlaagste modellen passen, en dan nog niet bij elk kind.<\/li><li><strong>Rond 2 jaar<\/strong>: het gros van de kinderen kan beginnen, meestal nog met drie of vier wielen.<\/li><li><strong>Rond 2,5 tot 3 jaar<\/strong>: twee wielen wordt interessant, zodra je kind stevig loopt en durft te sturen.<\/li><li><strong>Rond 4 jaar<\/strong>: de meeste kinderen groeien eruit en zijn toe aan een fiets met trappers.<\/li><\/ul><h2>Drie wielen of twee?<\/h2><p>De verleiding is om meteen twee wielen te nemen, want daar leert je kind toch balans van. Dat klopt, maar alleen als het er al aan toe is.<\/p><p>Drie of vier wielen doen iets wat vaak wordt onderschat: ze halen de spanning eruit. Je kind leert eerst wat sturen is, wat afzetten is en wat snelheid is. Dat zijn al drie dingen tegelijk. Balans erbij is er een te veel.<\/p><p>Merk je dat je kind bochten neemt zonder met de voeten te remmen? Dan is het klaar voor twee wielen. Dat klinkt als een lange periode, tot je terugtelt: begint je kind pas rond 2,5 jaar, dan houd je anderhalf jaar over. Daar gaan de wintermaanden nog vanaf.<\/p><p>Een loopfiets is daarmee een van de duurste stukken speelgoed per gebruiksuur die je in huis haalt. Zeker als je hem te vroeg koopt, want dan telt de wachttijd mee.<\/p><p>Het helpt als zulk speelgoed kan meebewegen met waar je kind nu zit: eerst iets om te duwen, dan drie wielen, dan twee.
